The automatic reverse mechanism (when the door is closing) is one of the most important characteristics of a garage door opener. It functions using two safety techniques. The first is mechanical: when an object comes in contact with the bottom of the door while closing, the door automatically changes direction. The second is photoelectric: when a person or object breaks the beam crossing the door, the door shifts to open. As such, when the door opener detects a person or object in the door’s trajectory, both safety mechanisms must function at the same time. It is very important to have the reversal mechanisms verified at least twice a year. Don’t simply rely on the fact that you have a door opener to open and close your door – remember that a door opener can easily lift 100 kg (225 lbs), but can also close with 100 kg of force.
